Course Objectives
To develop qualified personnels to become Occupational Health Professionals who will use scientific methodology in determining hazards, assessing exposure and risks to control potential health hazards and risks.
Pre-requisites
Learners are assumed to have:
- ES WPLN Level 6 or Grade C6 in GCE ‘O’ Level for English and Mathematics; AND
- Grade C6 in GCE ‘O’ Level Science (Chemistry and Physics) or Chemistry and/or Physics bridging course/assessment AND
- Preference will be given to those with at least 2 years of working experience in any industry; AND
- Completed 3 Pre Requisite Modules , with 2 modules from Group 1 (OH Units) and 1 module from Group 2 (Soft Skills)
Course Outline
Module 1. Evaluate and Control Biological Hazards [Pre-requisite module]
- Introduction to BIOSAFETY
- Assessing biological risks
- BIOSAFETY LEVEL
- Evaluating exposures to bio-aerosol
- Facility and equipment biohazards control measures
- Safe practices and procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment
- Biorisk Management System
Module 2. Assess Confined Space for Safe Entry and Work [Pre-requisite module]
Prepare for confined space assessment
- Identify hazards and take measures in confined space
- Conduct gas testing to ascertain the atmospheric condition in the confined space is safe for entry
- Participate in risk control and emergency response for entry into and working in a confined space
- Monitor the confined space conditions and control measures for safe working
Module 3. Problem Identification L4 [Pre-requisite module]
- Criteria for identifying performance deficiency or cause of failure in organisational systems and processes
- Criteria for shortlisting ideas using problem-solving tools
- Application of problem solving tools and techniques
- Techniques used during problem solving and decision making processes
- Types of analytical tools and techniques in terms of problem identification
- Types of decision making models for arriving at the preferred solution and their features
- Techniques to evaluate the effectiveness of implemented solution and implementation plan
- Factors affecting the effectiveness of an implementation plan
- Rationale for the different components in a corrective action plan.
Module 4. Evaluate Ergonomics-Related Hazards
- Able to collect data

Module 5. Evaluate Health Effects due to Hazardous Substances
- Able to understand health effect caused by hazardous substance
- Able to identify hazardous substance
- Able to understand basic toxicological concepts
Module 6. Manage Hazardous Substances
- Able to identify types and properties of hazardous substance
- Able to identify EHS hazards and risk involved with hazardous substance
- Able to understand and collect relevant information sources on HS
Module 7. Measure Exposure and Assess the Risks due to Hazardous Substances
- Understand definitions of hazard and risk and identify types of air borne contaminants
- Able to identify ill effects from exposure to hazardous substance
- Able to identify target organs and risk
Module 8. Control Noise and Vibration
- Able to interpret legislative requirements and meet objectives
- Able to interpret various noise hazards and ill effect that it has on human
- Able to apply sampling methods and use instruments to measure
Module 9. Monitor Noise and Vibration
- Able to interpret legislative requirements and meet objectives
- Able to interpret various noise hazards and ill effect that it has on human
Module 10. Compose Technical Report
- Establish technical report objective and requirements in accordance with organsiational requirements
- Prepare the information to be included in the technical report based on the collection of data analysis
- Align the draft technical report based on the established report objectives and requirements
Module 11. Interpret Basic Workplace Health Practices
- Able to understand roles of OH professionals and practices
- Able to interpret legal requirements
- Able to analyse health hazards, human anatomy, route of entry of hazards in human
Certificate Obtained and Conferred by
E-Statement of Attainment (SOA) from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) will be issued to those who meet the attendance requirements and the pass the assessments of all the modules.
