Diploma in Art Teaching by NAFA

The Diploma in Art Teaching is designed to nurture innovative art teachers. The course adopts a comprehensive approach to art teaching in two core disciplines: fine art and design. By integrating the studio practices of art and design, as well as learning key processes of art teaching and pedagogy, you are provided with a multi-perspective understanding of art education. You will undertake a teaching practice where you will apply the knowledge and art skills learnt to different modes of learning. This integrated experience aims to foster your artistic and intellectual development, enabling you to perform as an effective educator in a variety of contexts.

When you successfully complete the Diploma in Art Teaching at NAFA, you may apply to the National Institute of Education (NIE) of Nanyang Technological University to spend an additional year to obtain the Diploma in Art Education. At NIE, you will apply the knowledge learnt and art skills acquired into different modes of classroom learning.

If you aspire to become a teacher with the Ministry of Education (MOE), Singapore, you should apply directly to MOE in January 2019, by visiting https://www.moe.gov.sg/careers/teach/teacher-training-programmes/teacher-training-schemes-for-tamil-art-music-and-chinese. If selected, you will receive full funding for your three-year course at NAFA and one-year course at NIE, plus a monthly allowance. Upon completion of the four-year training programme, you will serve a five-year bond teaching in primary schools.
