This programme is for students who have previously studied psychology and want to further their knowledge and understanding of an applied area of psychology. Students will study general psychology at an advanced level and specialise in their choice of, educational and child psychology, counselling and clinical psychology or health psychology.
The main objectives of this programme is to:
- Enable students to make use of psychological research methods and to demonstrate an awareness of ethical issues in psychology
- Provide students with the opportunity to carry out independent research in an applied psychological area of their choice.
- Encourage the development of knowledge and skills (including literacy, numeracy, communication and IT skills) that will enable students in their chosen career
- Develop an understanding of how psychology is applied to real life, in an applied area of their choice (from a number of options such as Forensic Psychology, Educational and Child Psychology and Clinical and Counselling Psychology)
- Enable students to consider issues relating to professional practice in their chosen applied area of psychology
